The most important factor to get sustainable and profitable yield from any crop is the quality planting material. The seedling plants will also grow more vigorously within short span of time. In case of cocoa, cocoa is cross pollinated and open pollinated in general result in larger variability. But seedling multiplication became advantageous with production of hybrid varieties since hybrid vigor was established in cocoa. Hence, the use quality plants will help to develop uniform orchards with higher yields. The production and distribution of good quality grafts/ hybrid cocoa seedlings is most important thrust area identified for mission mode approach under MIDH. Hence, it is proposed to extend financial assistance for establishing/ modernizing of existing cashew/cocoa nurseries by extending financial assistance as per the norms under MIDH. The DCCD will also act as a nodal agency for accreditation of existing cashew/cocoa nurseries based on the guidelines prepared by the DCCD and issue recognition/registration. A committee consisting of Director, DCCD, Scientists from ICAR/SAU’s institute and officers from hort/agri departments will visit the nursery and issue accreditation certificate
